Prolapsed disc is a degenerative vertebrae disease. It occurs mainly in the lumbar region at the bottom of the back. In prolapsed disc the disc gets busted and fragments of the outer annulus fibrosus, together with some of the inner gelantinous nucleus pulposus, press on ligaments and nerves running close to the disc and produce pain. Discs in lower back are most vulnerable to prolapse, as the stress experienced by the spine is higher at these levels. Pain may arise suddenly while twisting or lifting heavy objects and the attempts to straighten back increases pain
