These exercises help in the prevention of deformity when started in the early stages. Arthritis affects the joints of shoulders, hands, hips and knees. In rheumatoid arthritis these joints are susceptible to stiffness and deformity. Daily practice of these exercises prevents deformity in these joints.
Various positioning exercises are:
- Place both the hands together. Heels of the palms, the palms and the fingers should be touching each other. Now keeping the hands in the same position move the elbows straight out to the side without separating the palms. Return to the normal position and repeat the same procedure.
- Face a wall or door and mark the highest point that can be touched with the fingertips. Touch this mark every day with alternate arms.
Sit comfortably in a chair. Place one more chair exactly in front of the previous one. Place one foot on the other chair. Keep both the knees straight. This will help to check the stiffness of the knee joints. |
